Former British Soldier Accused of Murdering Kenya Female Shows Up in Courtroom
An individual has shown up before a judge as extradition proceedings started in the investigation of Agnes Wanjiru, a female from Kenya who was killed near a British army base in the year 2012.
Purkiss, 38 years old, who is hailing from Greater Manchester, showed up in the magistrates' court in Westminster on the last Friday, and told the court he would challenge the deportation. It is understood that he was detained on Thursday evening.
A warrant for arrest for Purkiss was issued by a Kenyan court in Nairobi in the month of September. Legal prosecutors stated before the Kenyan court that the accused had been accused of a single count, of murder, and that the Kenyan government would request his deportation to stand trial.
Purkiss served formerly as a medical attendant with the Lancaster Regiment, the army unit for the English northwest, including on missions to Afghanistan.
The victim, twenty-one, a hairdresser who had a young daughter, went missing after a night on the town, and her corpse was located after two months in the area of the accommodation where she had last been seen.
Nobody had before been arrested or charged in association with her death. His detention came after a recent detective probe, which came after a article in the year 2021 by the Sunday Times, in which the newspaper approached several current and former soldiers in the regiment.
This inquiry has been spearheaded by Kenyan detectives, which, under a mutual defense pact, maintains prosecutorial power in the case.
