Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police issued video stills Monday of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was taken to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.

“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was projected as a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
