No Kieran McKenna Celtic FC Talks as Bellamy Pledges to Wales
Ipswich's manager and Craig Bellamy have been connected with the Celtic manager position
Ipswich Town's their manager states he has had "zero discussions" with Celtic about their managerial vacancy, while Welsh head coach the former striker is committed to seeing out his team's World Cup campaign.
Both are being considered with the coaching position at the Scottish champions following the former manager's departure on Monday.
The Manager's Stance on The Scottish Club
McKenna referred to Celtic as "an enormous football club" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.
The mid-thirties took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they won just a handful of victories last campaign as they were demoted back to the second division and they currently sit 12th in the Championship.
"There have been such discussions," the London-born ex- Northern Ireland young player said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.
"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any part of my focus is this week.
"I have a special job here at a special club. And we're at a really important stage of the campaign. Anything external hasn't touched my radar."
Background and Agreement Aspects
Reports indicate that the manager would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his childhood support.
"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about those. "It's unlikely all people has to go around and announce what they used to be, but of course it's a really big football club."
McKenna agreed to a fresh four-year contract in 2024 and was asked about his reported buyout clause.
"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he replied. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!
"I tackle this role like I will remain Ipswich manager forever. I understand that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as while I am here."
The Welsh Coach's Position
The former striker played for the Hoops on temporary transfer from the Magpies in 2005, but the former Welsh forward is minded to complete the ongoing World Cup campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from assuming the Celtic job.
Wales are currently third in their qualifying group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up North Macedonia.
Victories over the minnows and their rivals in November would book their position in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of reaching that stage, thanks to a successful Nations League campaign, should they not finish as Group J runners-up.
Given his present position, the Wales manager, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until following the qualifying matches at the minimum.
