Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United only seven months after starting derogatory taunts directed at their manager, Wilder.

This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a agreement with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. His seven-year career with Leeds was ended by mutual consent this past summer.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading offensive chants regarding Wilder during the club’s success festivities this spring. Now, the former England player is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift his beloved club away from the relegation zone.

Previous Conflict Involving Bamford and the Manager

The pair had history prior to Leeds earned promotion to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Looking Ahead

All appears to have been resolved with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement in attack while Bamford hoping to resurrect his career.

The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Wilder said back then: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.

“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and we had a longer discussion together and he's a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and take it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”

Recent Career Challenges

Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
