The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
