Two Men Arrested Over Mobile Device Concealed in Commons to Allegedly Play Sex Noises During PMQs
Police have taken into custody a duo of individuals related to a mobile phone found hidden within the House of Commons, which was allegedly designed to play sex noises throughout the weekly parliamentary session.
Discovery and Investigation
The device was uncovered close to the frontbench in the course of a routine sweep of the hall. Authorities suspect it was meant to interrupt the keynote weekly showdown between Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch in the autumn month.
A police spokesperson stated, “Around mid-morning on that specific date, a mobile phone was discovered while conducting a routine search of the parliamentary hall.”
Arrests and Allegations
Enquiries led officers to believe that the phone was purposely positioned in a spot with the aim of causing disruption to proceedings in the house.
- An individual in his thirties was detained on that Friday on suspicion of trying to intentionally cause a public nuisance.
- A second person in his sixties was taken into custody on the following Tuesday on suspicion of the same offence.
- The two have been released on bail to appear at a later date.
Security Measures and Consequences
Heightened precautions were implemented in the Commons after the phone was found. Sound-guided visits and escorted visits were called off, and there was limited entry to the main hall.
The House of Lords followed suit to limit entry to the their debating area “for safety reasons.”
The spokesperson added, “Investigations remain ongoing, and we are updating the parliamentary officials up to date with our probe.”
Gravity of the Incident
The event is being treated seriously as it represents a significant violation of parliamentary security. The phone was found while numerous guards based in the parliamentary area were on strike over pay and conditions.
As a result, visitors were banned from the legislative grounds. Labor representatives explained that the strike went ahead due to reduction of annual leave entitlements, unchanged salaries, and an ethnicity pay gap.
